Punjab govt launches bike scheme for students

 

In an initiative aimed at facilitating students' transportation needs, the Punjab government has announced the registration for the provision of 20,000 bikes in easy instalments.

The scheme, launched in the first phase, will see the distribution of 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 e-bikes.

Under the project, the Punjab government will pay a Rs 1 billion mark-up subsidy, besides paying Rs 20,000 per bike down payment on behalf of the students. The markup on monthly instalments will also be borne by the Punjab government.

Male students will pay a monthly instalment of Rs 11,676, while female students will pay Rs 7,325 per month. Distribution will be based on population density, with the first phase focusing on cities like Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.

The initiative targets students from both public and private universities and graduate colleges. The deadline for submitting applications is April 29th, providing students with the opportunity to access affordable transportation solutions to facilitate their educational pursuits.

The students can apply online by visiting the link (Students bikes.punjab.gov.pk). An eligible applicant must be a student of a public or private sector university/graduate college. He/she must be 18 years or above of age and has a driving license or learner's permit.

In the first phase, e-bikes will be given in Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi and Lahore, whereas petrol bikes will be given in each district in proportion to the population.

The last date for the submission of applications is April 29. The students can apply online. An eligible applicant must be a student of a government or private sector university or graduate college. He or she must be 18 years or above of age and have a driving licence.

Meanwhile, thousands of prisoners across Punjab were allowed to meet their families on Eid on the instructions of the chief minister.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz spent most of the Eid day with the homeless, special children, women and the elderly at the Chaman, Aafiyyat and Darul Falah welfare centres.

She issued directives on the occasion to send the elderly women for Hajj on government expenses.

  • Must be a regular student of a Degree College / University, duly recognized by HEC.
  • Must hold a valid motorcycle Learner’s Permit / Driving Licence. 
  • In case of receipt of applications above allocated quotas, e-balloting shall be conducted.
